Quick Synopsis: A coming of age tale told from the perspectives of both Bryce and Juli. Juli meets Bryce when he moves in and totally flips her lid over him. This goes on for some years until Bryce shows his true colors.

It’s pretty adorable. It’s written in two points of view and the way Van Draanen did it is something to marvel at. It legitimately seemed like two different people wrote it. Bryce (in the beginning) was just so…douchey. He was terrible and I could not see how Juli liked him but by the end, he really grew up. It was wonderful. Juli, on the other-hand, was different. She was..an old soul. Wise beyond her years really. I enjoyed the characters and their development.

I especially loved the parallels of their family. Both the families have a dinner together. After the dinner Bryce’s family gets into a gigantic fight where his dad slaps his sister across the face. Across the street, however, the Baker family is having some more dessert and basically being the cutest family ever.

Some of us get dipped in flat, some in satin, some in gloss…” He turned to me. “But every once you will find someone who’s iridescent, and when you do, nothing will ever compare.
