Quick Synopsis: Alek is a part of a very old fashioned traditional Armenian family. They value education a great deal but value their vendetta with the Turks even more. After finding out that he has to go to summer school instead of going on a family vacation, Alek’s life changes in a way he never thought it would.
No Spoilers. Promise.
This is Barakiva’s debut novel and I gotta admit, it’s an incredible first novel. I received it as an Advance Reader Copy (Uncorrected Proof) so there were some typos. Overall though, the story, was incredible. I loved it. It was romantic, adorable, and outrageously relate-able. Not only was it a good story, but it was actually crazy informative.
Alek, like stated above, is from an old fashioned Armenian family and Barakiva opens up that world to non-Armenians. I learned a great deal about the Armenian Genocide. Barakiva also touched on many Armenian traditions and really delicious sounding food.
This is a really easy read that any fan of YA, or adorably romantic stories would love.
